On March 1, 2016, LAPIS Semiconductor (LAPIS Semiconductor), a ROHM Group company, held a new product
launch at the Tsinghua-Rom Electronics Engineering Hall inside Tsinghua University to announce a newly developed
2.4GHz wireless communication that supports Bluetooth® v4.1 standard (Bluetooth® Smart). LSI ML7125-002,
which has already started mass production and sales. The product is ideally suited for IoT devices such as Beacons
and serial communication devices that require simplified systems and extended small battery life.
The ML7125-002 is a wireless communication IC developed by LSI for the growing global IoT market, led by
China. In addition, the ML7125-002 has the industry's top low current consumption and a rebuilt signal transceiver
active operating period, allowing it to achieve approximately 70,000 hours of battery drive (compared to
approximately 26,000 hours for the company's previous products).
The new ML7125-002 is a wireless communication LSI that can operate with only one chip without an external
microprocessor, and is primarily intended for Beacon (small base station) applications, which are small signal base
tations that can build a small information network using low-power Bluetooth features.
The most typical application of Beacon is in the use of Bluetooth broadcast information to do information push.
For example, when you go shopping in the mall, or to the supermarket, if you set up some Beacon devices at the
entrance of the mall, containing the discount information or promotional information of the goods, open the phone
to start the corresponding Beacon application, once you enter the store you can receive the corresponding
information, which can improve the fun of shopping, and reduce the physical burden of shopping. Another example
is when you visit a museum, when you approach each exhibit, if each exhibit is equipped with a Beacon device next
to it, your phone will immediately receive the introduction of the relevant exhibit, which can enrich your knowledge.
ML7125-002, as a dedicated Bluetooth® Smart communication IC, enables simple and easy communication. No
external microprocessor software development man-hours and costs are required, thus greatly contributing to the
popularity of IoT devices for infrastructure in the expanding IoT market.
The new ML7125-002 has the industry's top low current consumption. Taking advantage of the 0.15µm
low-power CMOS process in which Sapphire Semiconductor excels, the ML7125-002 achieves the industry's top
transceiver current (6.7mA) by adopting a method that enables low-power wireless communication, and by
equipping RF circuits, single-ended circuits, and direct modulators. Moreover, the effective operating period has
been optimized, and the average current consumption has been reduced by approximately 60% compared to our
previous products.
